How important is it to say the right word at the right time?
The right word at the right time can make a huge difference
I remember when quite a few years ago I attended a Christian meeting somewhere in the UK. However, that day was special because I was part of the ministry team. And because I was assigned to minister alongside an older brother.
After the meeting was over, we did wait on the sides of the hall for people to come for prayer. And a young man came to us and asked for prayer.
While my brother in the Lord asked the young man a few questions, I was praying and asked God for revelation. Moreover, after they finished talking my partner started praying and asked God to meet his needs. Further, after they did stop praying, my partner asked me if I want to say something. But he did not know that in the meantime I have heard the Lord telling me to deliver the young man a message. It was like I heard a voice in my head (or heart) saying: say to this man that I have never forgotten him.
And I did deliver the message. Needless to say the impact in the life of that man— he burst out into tears and cried for quite a while. Furthermore, at the end of the conference, his face looked changed, and he was transformed. All glory to God!
A word such as this can bring healing and deliverance.
Thinking about that, Proverbs 25:11 (TLV) came into my mind
Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word aptly spoken.
Therefore, let us see four things we can learn from this verse. We can learn that:
1. The right word at the right time is rare
Just like gold is a rare metal, so the right word at the right time is unique. In our days it is more common to hear people talk the wrong word at the right moment or the right word at the wrong moment. However, very rare— just like gold is rare— one will say the right word at the right time. And the right time can make a tremendous difference in the life of your neighbor.
2. The right word at the right time is precious
Again, just like gold is valuable so is a word at the right time. I am sure that many times you heard a word from the Lord spoken at the right time for you! Indeed, God always speaks at the right time, not like many of us. Do you remember how precious was the word of encouragement or wisdom you received from the Lord through your friend or Pastor when you were in a storm? Or the right word you got when you were ill or discouraged?
And I am sure many of us can declare that God was good with us and that He gave us many times strength to continue our battles or our walk through a word from the Scriptures or through someone else. How precious such a word like this is for our soul!
3. The right word at the right time brings healing
The right word at the right time is compared with apples. And apples are known for having vitamins and for sustaining good health. Likewise, the right word at the right time is a word that brings life and good health— not illness. Let us learn from this.
And remember that even a word of rebuke, spoken at the right time, can save your life! Therefore, do not dismiss a word of rebuke but take it to the Lord in prayer and see what you need to do.
4. The right word at the right time is a masterpiece
And like one can see in the picture of my post, ‘apples of gold in settings of silver’ are a masterpiece. Look again at the painting. It is a masterpiece, and it is gorgeous! Similarly, a word spoken at the right time is an art— a masterpiece and something beautiful.
Now what?
It is essential to know the timing, but also it is critical to know what to talk.
Jesus said in John 12:49 (TLV)
For I did not speak on My own, but the Father Himself who sent Me has commanded Me what to say and speak.
Pray this week, together with me that the Spirit of God will make us like the Son of God in how dependant He was to the Father for His speech.
The best word one can speak is the Word of God! Therefore, let us pray that the Holy Spirit will guide our words today and make them aim the target in prayer and in loving the people around us. Words have power. However, they have greater power when we speak them at the right time!
Maybe the right word at the right time today is a thank you, or please forgive me, or I forgive you. Pay attention to the Spirit of God!

2 Timothy 1:6 Kindle afresh the gift (charisma) of God in you by laying on of my hands. The spirit God gave (charisma) is not timid but is power (dynamis) and love (agape) and disciplined.(sophronomos-a supernatural God ability to adapt your actions and words to perfectly fit a situation)….vs 8. Therefore don’t be afraid of the testimony of our Lord…
