A changed life is everybody’s dream. People will travel hundred of miles to a different continent and a different country to live a better (changed) life. However, genuine change cannot happen outside of God—and God is everywhere. All one needs to experience a changed life is going to God in humility.
We all seek a changed life
Ever since I was a little boy, I knew about God’s calling for my life—to be a Pastor. However, in High School, I forgot about God and His calling and I wanted to change my life by making a career in politics. Therefore, I majored in Political Science. While I was in University, I also started my business. For a while, I thought I changed my life the way I wanted, and I did it in my strength and I did it my way. The I experienced what I call my blessed crisis. I know my parents prayed night and day for me—they prayed God will change my life. And God answered their prayers.
God answered their prayers by first touching the one thing I loved the most—my business. In a nutshell, my business crumbled in front of my eyes and I felt helpless in stopping it from crumbling. It was lile Someone from the outside of my world, Someone infinitely powerful and intelligent, pushed back on my every effort.
My business melted like an ice-cube melts in a hot summer day—and then it evaporate in the air, leaving no trace. Moreover, the relationship with my parents grew toxic. I grew up hating my father and wanting to be everything he was not. I took a vow to never be like him, and to prove to him I can be better than he is. And lastly, the relationship with myself was empty. I felt like I have no purpose in life and I saw no meaning in anything I did. I felt covered by a thick blanket of consusion and I saw no way out.
A changed life is a process
That was the blessed moment when I cried out to the Lord. I came to the end of myself and asked God to change my life. I told God I don’t know how to change my life, as He can see. And to make a long story short—several days later, He solved all my problems with the business. I knew that was God and I’ve surrendered my life to Him and follow Him. Slowly, the Lord took me through a process of change—a process of healing and restoration. Like an architect who restores a broken house, so the Lord restored my mind and decisions.
First, the Lord touched my thinking. He taught me His commands, ways, what pleases Him and what does not; and how to grow a personal relationship with Him. I came to know that a changed life starts with a changed mind. Next, God changed my behaviour. I learned to glorify God through my actions and decisions. Just as before I lived a life in which I glorified myself and the world, now I started to live a life that glorifies God. All these changes gave me a sense and a purpose and meaning—I knew that my destiny is where Jesus is.
One does not have to move to a different country or spend great wealth to have a changed life. By myself, I could not change mylife, but only to make a mess out of it. However, God loved to make something beautiful out of my mess. A changed life is often a painful process—a process that will last a lifetime. But the rewards are eternal. I feel God telling He has not finished with me; He still works through His Spirit to change me more like His Son, Jesus Christ.
