Pornography is dangerous—but how dangerous?
A short parable
Just imagine that someone will offer you a part-time job, with a flexible schedule. That someone will decide when you must work and for how long you must work. Sometimes you will work just two hours a week, but sometimes you will accomplish two hours a day, or even more. Moreover, you will have to go at work whenever you are told to and you will have to put everything else aside. Also, sometimes your employer will ask you to work even during nights and thus miss a good night sleep. Very often you will lose precious time with friends and family because of your work.
In the beginning, you will not be asked to do anything illegal. However, sometimes you will be told to work at this part-time job during your primary job. Needless to say, your boss should not find about this part-time job and actually nobody should ever find out. Not even your wife, friends or the people in your congregation. Therefore, you will have to find good excuses to justify your time and behavior. And you will not be paid for your work but you will be asked to spend money at this job. After you will start working there, it will be very hard for you to leave as your boss will not let you go very easily.
Pornography is dangerous
As you might suspect, this part-time job is nothing else but pornography. And pornography and Satan, who invented it, do not care about you nor that they are destroying your life, marriage, and career. Satan is—the thief (who) comes only to steal and kill and destroy (John 10:10 ESV). However, Jesus came that His people may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10 ESV).
Maybe we should give a definition for pornography. This is how I define it:
Pornography is anything that one uses to stimulate oneself sexually. It can be a YouTube clip or a Pinterest/Facebook picture, a Hollywood movie, a clothing catalog or a commercial magazine, etc. Anything you use to fantasize or sexually stimulate yourself.
So, we need to be serious about this and not try to find excuses or rationalize it. Self-denial is one of the most significant obstacles in the way of getting healed.
I hope it will not be shocking for anyone to hear that pornography is dangerous. I will not elaborate too much on this topic as other people are doing this work much better than I do—read Clean by Douglas Weiss for more.

As you probably already know, pornography is associated with sexual perversions, masturbation, and often with sexual violence of different forms.
Pornography is dangerous for everybody
Today, pornography is not even seen as something horrible by many people, even by some doctors or pastors/priests. Just look on the Internet for some statistics about pornography addiction. Maybe until 40-50 years ago, pornography was considered something shameful. Not anymore. People tend to look at it as something reasonable.
During our days it is relatively easy to access the Internet for pornography. Also, one of the problems is that more and more children are looking at it from the comfort of their home. Moreover, pornography is addictive and is producing the same effects as cocaine or other drugs for the brain. So, in time, it is damaging the brain. It is also affecting the mental health of an individual because many people who did consume pornography become sexual abusers and even murderers.
One of the reasons many countries do not forbid pornography is because this sinful industry is producing lots of money. The big companies know that and are using erotic content and images to sell their products.
Pornography is dangerous and addictive
It is affecting families all over the world. Singles do not have the same desire to start a family because of pornography. Families are being destroyed by this sinful behavior as the spouse is losing interest in the other one. Moreover, they feel hurt. Men tend not to love their wife as they used to and tend to lose the desire of having children. They look for adventures with partners outside of their marriage and are also in danger of spreading all kinds of sexual diseases. Also, many end up in divorce. Malachi 2:16 (NKJV) is presenting God’s will for the family
For the Lord God of Israel says that He hates divorce…
I have already mentioned that pornography is addictive. However, pornography is also progressive. Like with any other addiction, the one who is there will want more. Therefore, people caught in this sin will want to go deeper into pornography, as what they watched so far is not satisfying them anymore. Needless to say, even children can become addicted to this sinful behavior.
I think this is crazy when I see countries offering sexual education to children in the form of pornography. Anyone can be affected by this sin named pornography. Because sin always has a name in the Bible. Sin is not just sin. Sin has a name!
Pornography is defiling
What many believers fail is to look at pornography as something spiritual too. I will explain myself. Pornography is dangerous because it is idolatry—I will talk about this in my next blog post. And like any other sin, it opens a door for the enemy to come into our lives. And one does not need to make special invitations to the devil to come in. He will send his agents and torment the one trapped into this sinful behaviour.
Anyone can understand that pornography has something spiritual in it when he or she tries to delete the pornographic images from his or her minds. Only when one works to do that will they see that a sexual image is not just an image. It has something more in it that makes it different. Indeed, it is crucial to know how to remove it from your mind. Therefore, it is critical to understand that it has a spiritual dimension too. All these images will defile the human spirit and soul and will bring lots of guilt and shame in the life of a believer. Sin is defiling.
Now what?
Many serial killers did begin with watching pornography. They just wanted more and more until they ended up sexually abusing and even killing other human beings. They did all of these things because in their eyes women were only objects for their selfish pleasure. I will mention only Ted Bundy who went way too far. No wonder we read in Hosea 4:11 (ESV)
whoredom, wine, and new wine, which take away the understanding.
It is just a matter of time until someone who is trapped in pornography will go too far. It is time for you to stop right now- it is possible.
Maybe it will be a journey for you to be set free from pornography as it was for me. Maybe you will never be perfect in this area of your life—but friend, fight for your life! Choose today to do something different, even if you only install Covenant Eyes on your computer or buy a book about the topic. Or seek counsel with your Pastor or look for a coach or counselor to help you make some changes. Do something different and you will have different results! Ask God’s help and for the help of God’s people!
And if you still don’t know where to start—start at the cross of Jesus.
Pornography is dangerous for you soul and eternity. Don’t believe anyone who tells you something else!
